How to treat uterine fibroids better

The treatment of uterine fibroids should be determined according to the specific situation. Some require surgical treatment, while others can be followed up and observed regularly.

Uterine fibroids are one of the most common diseases in women. Among outpatients, 1/3 of them have uterine fibroids. If they meet the following conditions, surgical treatment can be considered:

1. Uterine fibroids are often multiple, which will enlarge the uterus. If the absolute value of the uterine enlargement exceeds that of pregnancy for more than 10 weeks, surgical treatment can be considered;

2. When the quality of life of women is significantly affected, such as due to the presence of uterine fibroids, poor uterine contraction, increased menstrual blood volume, and even anemia, surgical removal can be considered;

3. When the uterus is significantly enlarged and compresses the pelvic cavity, causing symptoms such as backache, abdominal pain, lower limb pain, and discharge, uterine fibroid surgery may also be considered;

4. If a young woman's uterine fibroids are larger than 4 to 5 cm and she wants to get pregnant, it is recommended that she undergo surgery before pregnancy;

5. If uterine fibroids grow rapidly and malignancy cannot be ruled out, surgical treatment is also required.

There are different ways of surgery for uterine fibroids. The simplest is myomectomy, which can be performed openly or under laparoscopy. You can also choose to remove submucosal fibroids with hysteroscopy. You can also consider total hysterectomy. Depending on the situation, the doctor should evaluate what method of surgery to use.

Fibroids that do not meet surgical indications, for example, although they exist, their absolute size is not too large, they do not affect the patient's quality of life, do not cause anemia and abdominal pain, the patient has no plans to become pregnant, and the growth rate is not fast, this type of fibroids can be followed up and observed regularly.
