The dangers and treatment of vulvar leukoplakia

Vulvar leukoplakia will cause obvious itching and other discomfort, which has a great impact on the patient's life. In addition, vulvar leukoplakia has a certain probability of developing vulvar skin cancer, which can be life-threatening. The treatment is mainly to control the itching symptoms. The cancer-causing rate of vulvar leukoplakia varies depending on the cause. If there is a tendency to cancer, surgical treatment is required.

1. Primary vulvar chronic simple lichen lichen is related to local friction, emotional stimulation, and endocrine disorders. It is recommended to use tacrolimus ointment, pimecrolimus cream or mometasone furoate cream for treatment.

2. Secondary chronic simple vulvar lichen planus is generally caused by vulvar lichen planus, eczema and other diseases. Repeated scratching of the local skin due to itching leads to lichenification of the vulvar skin. The treatment is mainly to actively control the primary disease. Generally, ointments such as hydrofluoric acid ointment, triamcinolone ointment, tacrolimus ointment, etc. can be applied. Some physical treatments have a certain effect, such as micron light, helium-neon laser, etc.

3. Vulvar lichen sclerosus is related to heredity, immune system disorders, and sex hormone imbalance. A small number of patients will develop vulvar cancer. A pathological examination should be performed before treatment to determine whether there are signs of cancer. Patients without cancer can generally be treated with hormone ointments, such as mometasone furoate cream, halometasone cream, hydrocortisone butyrate cream, etc. Surgical excision is required for those with a tendency to malignancy.
