What causes vaginitis?

Vaginitis is an inflammation of the inside of the vagina, usually caused by an infection with bacteria, fungi, or parasites. Here are some common causes of vaginitis:

1. Bacterial infection: The most common bacterial infection is bacterial vaginosis, which is usually caused by the overgrowth of certain bacteria in the vagina. This may be caused by changes in sexual partners, sexual behavior, decreased resistance, or the use of washing lotions containing irritating chemicals.

2. Fungal infection: Candida is the most common fungus in the vagina, usually caused by a weak immune system, antibiotic use, high estrogen levels or diabetes.

3. Parasitic infection: Trichomonas is a common parasite that can cause trichomoniasis vaginitis. This infection is usually transmitted through sexual contact.

4. Imbalance in vaginal pH: An imbalance in the acidity (pH) of the vagina may also lead to vaginitis. When the pH of the vagina is too high or too low, it disrupts the normal bacterial balance inside the vagina, leading to inflammation.

5. Allergic reaction: Some women may be allergic to certain vaginal care products, washes, condoms, sanitary napkins, etc., which may lead to the occurrence of vaginitis.

Symptoms of vaginitis include vaginal itching, abnormal discharge, burning sensation, frequent urination, etc. If you experience these symptoms, you should seek medical attention and receive appropriate treatment. Ways to prevent vaginitis include maintaining good personal hygiene, avoiding the use of irritating products, avoiding excessive vaginal cleaning, and keeping your immune system healthy.
