Under what circumstances is surgery necessary for uterine fibroids? Can uterine fibroids heal on their own?

Will uterine fibroids disappear on their own? Although uterine fibroids are benign tumors that rarely endanger life safety, uterine fibroids can also grow. As uterine fibroids grow, patients may also experience symptoms such as irregular menstruation, compression, and pain, and then need to consider surgical treatment. Even if the surgical indicators are not met, patients with uterine fibroids need regular examinations, and patients with fast-growing uterine fibroids should be examined every 3-6 months.

Women approaching menopause, if the uterine fibroids are not growing fast and not degenerating, can wait for the fibroids to shrink on their own. Because uterine fibroids are a hormone-dependent disease, they will decrease as the hormone levels decrease during menopause. But this does not mean that uterine fibroids can be cured or disappear.

Not all patients with uterine fibroids require surgical treatment. Most patients only need expectant treatment, that is, regular examination and observation of the growth of fibroids, and do not require any treatment.

However, surgery is required in one of the following situations:

1. Excessive menstruation, accompanied by anemia due to uterine fibroids;

2. Submucosal uterine fibroids;

3. Uterine fibroids make the uterus reach the size of a newborn's head;

4. Uterine fibroids grow too fast;

5. Uterine fibroids cause urination difficulties;

6. Uterine fibroids requiring surgery accompanied by ovarian tumors;

7. Myomas growing in special parts such as cervical myomas, broad ligament myomas, and submucosal myomas;

8. Uterine fibroids do not shrink after menopause, but grow larger instead;

9. The patient suffers from severe psychological disorders due to uterine fibroids and psychological treatment is ineffective.
