Can I use a pregnancy test stick to detect an ectopic pregnancy?

Pregnancy test sticks are a common pregnancy test method for female friends nowadays. They are not only highly accurate, but also very convenient to operate, so they are deeply loved by the majority of women. Ectopic pregnancy, as the name suggests, means that the fertilized egg does not implant and develop in the uterus. It is also called "ectopic pregnancy" in clinical practice. It brings great harm to pregnant women, so it is necessary to actively diagnose and treat it. So, can ectopic pregnancy be detected with pregnancy test sticks?

Ectopic pregnancy cannot be detected by pregnancy test sticks. Pregnancy test sticks can only detect pregnancy, but cannot detect whether there is an ectopic pregnancy. There are many ways to clinically examine ectopic pregnancy, among which B-ultrasound examination is the most accurate and reliable method to confirm ectopic pregnancy.
B-ultrasound examination can clearly see the location, size, and shape of the gestational sac, as well as the embryo and fetal heart rate. It can determine whether it is a single-fetal pregnancy or a multiple-fetal pregnancy, understand whether it is a normal intrauterine pregnancy, and rule out the possibility of an abnormal pregnancy. In addition:
1. Progesterone measurement: The serum P level of ectopic pregnancy is low, but it is relatively stable at 5-10 weeks of pregnancy, and a single measurement has a greater diagnostic value. Although there is overlap between normal and abnormal pregnancy serum P levels, it is difficult to determine the absolute critical value between them, but serum P levels below 10ng/m1 (radioimmunoassay) often indicate abnormal pregnancy, and its accuracy rate is about 90%.
2. HCG measurement: It is currently an important method for early diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy.
When ectopic pregnancy cannot be ruled out, diagnostic curettage can be performed to obtain the endometrium for pathological examination. However, the endometrial changes in ectopic pregnancy are not characteristic and can be manifested as decidual tissue, highly secretory phase with or without A-S reaction, and multiple secretory and proliferative phases. Endometrial changes are related to the presence or absence of vaginal bleeding and the duration of vaginal bleeding in patients. Therefore, diagnostic curettage alone has great limitations in the diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy.
