Isn't cervical erosion a disease that needs treatment? It must be treated

Cervical erosion is a gynecological disease that many people are troubled by, because they are scared just by hearing the name of the disease. After all, erosion proves that the symptoms are relatively serious. In fact, cervical erosion does not mean that the cervix is really eroded, but the symptoms look like erosion, so it is called cervical erosion. It can be said that this is not a disease, so does it still need treatment?

Cervical erosion is caused by hormones and is a normal physiological phenomenon. Many baby girls have "cervical erosion" as soon as they are born, but how can a newborn baby have cervical damage? In fact, it is affected by the increase in hormone levels in the mother's body during pregnancy. After leaving the mother's body, the "erosion" of the baby girl will naturally subside. In addition, menopausal women do not have cervical erosion. This further proves that cervical erosion is caused by hormone changes.
Therefore, the medical community no longer uses the misleading term "cervical erosion", but instead uses the professional term "cervical columnar epithelium ectopia".
Since there is no real erosion, does it need treatment?
Traditional textbooks believe that cervical erosion must be treated because it means the presence of cervical inflammation, and long-term inflammation can cause a lot of harm to women, possibly causing infertility or even cervical cancer. Traditional textbooks explain that in the process of self-repair, cervical erosion may increase the chance of epithelial dysplasia, so cervical erosion can be said to be an inherent basis for the occurrence of cervical cancer.
Therefore, doctors in the past always use drugs, microwaves, lasers or freezing to destroy the columnar epithelium on the eroded surface, causing it to necrotize and fall off, so that new squamous epithelium can grow. For women who have given birth, cone biopsy is often used, which is to peel off a layer of the cervix like peeling an apple.
Conization is indeed the only thorough way to treat cervical cancer in clinical practice. However, the question is, is cervical erosion equivalent to cervical cancer?
Absolutely not. The relationship between cervical erosion and cervical cancer is that the main cause of cervical cancer is HPV (human papillomavirus) infection, and the junction of the cervical squamous columnar epithelium is the most susceptible to HPV infection. Therefore, HPV infection is the bridge between cervical erosion and cervical cancer. If the treatment method for cervical cancer is used to treat cervical erosion when there is no HPV infection, it is over-medicalization and is completely wrong.
No special treatment is required <br/>According to current medical concepts, "cervical erosion" is only a symptomatic description, not a clinical diagnosis. What doctors have to do is to judge based on the symptoms whether it is related to cervical lesions or is simply caused by hormonal changes.
For the latter, the doctor will make a judgment by asking about the menstrual cycle and no treatment is needed. If it is the former, a cervical cytology examination is needed to check for inflammation, precancerous lesions, etc. If problems are found, a histological diagnosis will be performed to confirm the severity of the problem.
At the same time, virological examination for HPV must also be done. If it is just caused by inflammation, there is no need to make a fuss, because just like rhinitis and pharyngitis, it is normal for the cervix to occasionally have inflammation. Just treat some special discomfort symptoms symptomatically.
