How to treat influenza in adults

Adult influenza treatment needs to be based on the severity of the symptoms. If severe symptoms such as persistent high fever and difficulty breathing occur, please seek medical attention as soon as possible.

Influenza is an acute respiratory infection caused by influenza virus. It is highly contagious and usually causes a series of uncomfortable symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat, muscle aches, etc. Influenza is different from the common cold in that its symptoms are more severe, the recovery time is relatively longer, and it may cause complications such as pneumonia.

Generally speaking, those with mild symptoms can receive symptomatic treatment, such as taking over-the-counter antipyretics and analgesics to relieve fever and headaches, drinking warm water to keep the body hydrated, and taking rest to enhance immunity. Common cold medicines are ineffective against the influenza virus itself. Once the influenza virus infection is confirmed, the doctor may prescribe antiviral drugs, such as oseltamivir, which are most effective when used in the early stages and can shorten the course of the disease and alleviate symptoms. In addition, physical fatigue related to fever is very common, and it is recommended not to force yourself to work or exercise vigorously.

In order to avoid worsening symptoms or infecting others, it is important to isolate yourself at home after you become ill and avoid crowded places. At the same time, you need to strengthen your nutrition during treatment and eat more foods rich in vitamins and protein, such as fruits, vegetables, and lean meat. If symptoms continue to worsen, such as high fever for more than three days, shortness of breath, or weak body suspected of co-infection, please go to the hospital in time for further evaluation and treatment.
