How to Treat Endometriosis

There are many causes of endometriosis. Abnormal immune function, genetic factors and environment can cause certain damage to the uterus. We need to determine the cause of endometriosis and carry out targeted treatment when treating it. How to treat endometriosis? Drugs are used to offset or inhibit cyclical ovarian endocrine stimulation. Initially, testosterone was used as a male hormone, which had great side effects and was not effective enough. It was gradually abandoned. Later, it gradually developed into pseudo-pregnancy treatment and pseudo-menopause treatment.

1. Pseudo-pregnancy therapy is a powerful progesterone contraceptive that is taken continuously for a long time and in large doses to stop menstruation and cause pregnancy reaction in the endometrium and ectopic endometrium under the action of the drug, so it is also called pseudo-pregnancy therapy. There are many drugs for this therapy, and they are still under development. This treatment lasts for at least six months, and then the ectopic endometrium stops moving and eventually atrophies, thus producing a therapeutic effect.

2. Surgical treatment It is generally believed that chocolate cysts occurring on the ovaries often have larger lesions, or ectopic endometrial nodules with a diameter greater than 2 cm occurring in other parts of the uterus are not easily controlled by drugs and require surgical treatment; or the condition is still not good after six months or even a year of drug treatment. Surgical resection should also be considered. If the patient is young and childless, the endometriosis is usually removed, leaving the uterus and normal ovarian tissue. This is called conservative surgery. This surgery retains the possibility of fertility, but the possibility of recurrence is greater. If a child is born and the patient is older (35), the uterus can be removed and the endometriosis is removed, but normal ovarian tissue can be retained. In the long run, this method is better than conservative surgery, but it cannot absolutely prevent recurrence. If the patient is close to menopause or the endometriosis is too extensive to be completely eradicated, the uterus and ovaries should be removed at the same time during surgery.
