What is pelvic effusion?

Many people don’t know much about pelvic effusion. What is pelvic effusion? It sounds scary. In fact, pelvic effusion is also a common gynecological disease among women, so today our editor will give you a brief introduction.

1. What is "pelvic effusion"?

Pelvic effusion is pelvic fluid accumulation, which is the presence of inflammatory exudate in the pelvis, mostly caused by gynecological inflammation. When inflammation occurs, slightly viscous fluid will ooze out of the swollen cells of the endometrial tissue, and gradually form a cystic mass when it is wrapped by the surrounding tissue. It can be divided into physiological pelvic effusion and pathological pelvic effusion.

2. Detailed explanation of the classification and causes of pelvic effusion

Physiological pelvic effusion: Because the pelvic cavity is the lowest part of the abdominal cavity in the whole body, when there is exudate or leaked fluid, it will drain into the pelvic cavity, thus forming pelvic effusion. Physiological pelvic effusion mostly occurs after women ovulate or in early pregnancy, and most of them can disappear naturally, and generally no treatment is required.

Pathological pelvic effusion: In clinical practice, pathological pelvic effusion is mostly caused by pelvic inflammatory disease, adnexitis or endometriosis. The causes of pelvic inflammatory disease and adnexitis are mostly related to the patient's bad hygiene habits, such as having sex during menstruation or within one month after delivery, taking a bath within one month after gynecological surgery, etc. Medical-induced infection caused by improper disinfection of artificial abortion and induced labor can also cause pelvic effusion. If there are chronic infection lesions, it may be inflammation in the pelvic cavity of the gynecological system such as the ovaries and fallopian tubes, causing pelvic effusion. In addition, a few are caused by ruptured ectopic pregnancy, ruptured corpus luteum, pelvic abscess, chocolate cyst, and ovarian cancer. A very small number of pelvic effusions are caused by tuberculosis.
