Why does threatened miscarriage occur?

Why does threatened abortion happen? Giving birth to life is a wonderful thing, but if you are not careful, threatened abortion will occur. Threatened abortion refers to a small amount of vaginal bleeding before 28 weeks of pregnancy, followed by paroxysmal lower abdominal pain or back pain. So, why does threatened abortion happen?

1. Chromosomal abnormalities

Chromosomal abnormality is the main cause of miscarriage. Chromosomal abnormality includes two categories: quantitative abnormality and structural abnormality. Studies have shown that 50% to 60% of early spontaneous abortions have chromosomal abnormalities. If one of the couple has a chromosomal abnormality, it can be passed on to the offspring, leading to miscarriage or repeated miscarriage.

2. Maternal factors

(1) Systemic diseases: high fever during systemic infection can induce uterine contraction and cause miscarriage; infection with certain known pathogens such as Toxoplasma, herpes simplex, Mycoplasma hominis, Ureaplasma urealyticum, and cytomegalovirus are associated with miscarriage; ischemic and hypoxic diseases such as heart failure, severe anemia, hypertension, chronic nephritis, and severe malnutrition in pregnant women can also lead to miscarriage.

(2) Endocrine abnormalities: such as luteal insufficiency, hypothyroidism, uncontrolled diabetes, etc.

(3) Immune dysfunction or severe nutritional deficiencies, or bad habits such as smoking, alcoholism, excessive coffee drinking, or use of drugs such as heroin.

(4) Adverse factors in the environment, such as harmful chemicals such as formaldehyde, benzene, lead, congenital uterine malformations, submucous uterine fibroids, intrauterine adhesions, etc.; squeezing the abdomen or rapid impact, even surgery, excessive sexual intercourse, excessive fear, sadness, anger, etc. may all cause threatened abortion.

If vaginal bleeding stops, abdominal pain disappears, and ultrasound confirms that the embryo is alive, the pregnancy can continue. If clinical symptoms worsen, ultrasound finds that the embryo is maldeveloped, and blood hCG continues to not rise or decreases, it indicates that miscarriage is inevitable and the pregnancy should be terminated. In the early stages of pregnancy, you should pay attention to rest and avoid excessive fatigue. You should avoid sexual intercourse in the first three months of pregnancy and try to avoid contact with toxic and harmful physical and chemical substances to avoid threatened miscarriage.
