Can vulvar leukoplakia be cured?

Can vulvar leukoplakia be cured? Many people in life suffer from vulvar leukoplakia. This disease is much more harmful than general gynecological inflammation, so patients must not ignore its treatment. Once the symptoms of the disease are found, they must actively receive treatment. So, can vulvar leukoplakia be cured?

Although there are many methods for treating vulvar leukoplakia, there are certain difficulties because the disease has a high recurrence rate. Therefore, it must be detected and treated early. The chance of cure in the early stage of the disease is very high, and the risk of recurrence can be avoided to a certain extent. Therefore, patients must learn more about the early symptoms of the disease and detect it early so that they can start treatment early.

First, the manifestations of hyperplastic vulvar leukoplakia. The typical symptoms of hyperplastic vulvar leukoplakia are thickening of the genital skin and dark red color. A careful observation will reveal that there are many raised white spots on the skin separated from the dark red areas. The specific manifestations are skin epithelial hyperplasia, irregular thickening of the prickle cell layer, hyperkeratosis of the epithelial surface, and the appearance of many inflammatory cells in the dermis.

Second, the manifestation of lichen sclerosus type vulvar leukoplakia. The symptoms of this type of vulvar leukoplakia often vary depending on the development time of the disease. At the beginning, small white papules will appear on the affected skin. The edges of the papules are irregular, but the surface is relatively flat. As time goes by, many rashes will gradually merge into white spots, which is what we often call lichen; in the later stage, the skin of the affected area will become wrinkled, atrophied, and lose its elasticity.

Third, the manifestation of mixed vulvar leukoplakia. This type of leukoplakia is a combination of the above two types. On the basis of skin atrophy, local epithelial hyperplasia and hypertrophy will also occur in the affected skin. If observed under a medical microscope, it will be found that there are hyperplastic islands in the atrophic lesion area, so this type of disease is more difficult to treat and cure.

Thinning of the mucous membrane is one of the symptoms of vulvar leukoplakia. However, this symptom may not appear in every patient with vulvar leukoplakia, and some patients may experience thinning of the local skin and mucous membrane, accompanied by swelling and edema, atrophy or even disappearance of the labia majora and minora, and gradual narrowing of the vaginal opening, causing difficulties in sexual life or childbirth.
