This adhesion has a certain self-protective effect, limiting the inflammation to the pelvic cavity and avoiding diffusion to the whole abdomen.

The absorption capacity of the pelvic peritoneum is lower than that of the upper abdomen and can limit the absorption of toxins. However, exudate still exists in the adhesion gaps, and sometimes multiple small abscesses remain. Some can be completely absorbed and there may be no traces except for tight adhesions.

Pelvic peritonitis is harmful to women's physical and mental health. In severe cases, the entire pelvic peritonitis undergoes inflammation. In rare cases, it may even spread to the entire abdomen, becoming diffuse peritonitis. Some may lead to infertility. Moreover, pelvic peritonitis has a self-protection function.
