Is cervical warts life-threatening?

Patients suffering from cervical warts must have regular check-ups, because the disease is prone to recurrence. Experts point out that there is another issue that needs attention, which is that this disease is very harmful. Many patients have died due to complications caused by cervical warts, so we must pay attention to it.

Cervical warts can also cause cancer

Cervical condyloma, also known as genital warts or venereal warts, is a tumor-like hyperplasia of the epidermis of the genitals, perineum and anus caused by infection with human papillomavirus (HPV). It is a sexually transmitted disease. In recent years, the incidence of this disease in my country has increased dramatically, with an annual growth rate of 22.52%. The number of cases is second only to gonorrhea, ranking second among sexually transmitted diseases. This disease is prone to occur in people aged 16-35, mainly through sexual contact, but also through contact with contaminated objects, or through close contact in the family and mother-to-child transmission.

The infection of this disease can be divided into three situations: ① dominant infection; ② clinical infection; ③ latent (latent) infection. It is more common in men, such as the glans penis, coronal sulcus, and frenulum; in homosexuals, it occurs in the anus and rectum; in women, it is more common in the labia, clitoris, cervix, vagina, and anus. Its subclinical infection usually refers to lesions that cannot be identified clinically by the naked eye, and the manifestations may be: ① tiny papillary sessile warts; ② tiny papillary protrusions; ③ normal-looking annular lesions. Subclinical infection lesions are topically applied or wet-compressed with 3-5% acetic acid solution for 5-10 minutes, and the infected area may turn white, which is the so-called "acetic acid white phenomenon".

This disease is prone to recurrence, so it is very necessary to choose an effective and accurate treatment plan. Non-systemic treatment methods are mainly based on the removal of local exogenous warts, which has a high recurrence rate. The professional treatment principles are: ① Check for other concurrent sexually transmitted diseases; ② Check whether the sexual partner has it; ③ Apply 3-5 acetic acid to the genital area to check for subclinical infection; ④ Exclude malignant transformation; ⑤ Systemic antiviral treatment; ⑥ Do not use highly toxic drugs or methods that leave scars.

If the disease is not treated in time, it can harm individuals, families, future generations, and society. Statistics show that the occurrence of cervical cancer is closely related to human papillomavirus. According to reports, 4.7-10.2% of cervical cancer can develop into cancer. Other scholars have pointed out that 5% of female vulvar cancer and 5% of anal cancer are secondary to venereal warts; if pregnant women are infected, the wart virus can be transmitted to the baby during delivery, causing laryngeal papilloma in the baby. Therefore, patients must be treated in time.

Although cervical warts can cause cancer, the probability of cancer is not high. As long as the condition of cervical warts can be controlled in the early stage, it will basically not lead to cancer. Of course, if patients with cervical warts cannot keep themselves clean during the illness, it is difficult to say whether cancer will occur.
