What to do if you have cervical precancerous lesions in late pregnancy

I believe that for every female friend, nurturing a healthy baby is a very happy period, but sometimes life is not smooth sailing. When we enjoy the joy brought by the baby, many unacceptable phenomena will be found. For example, some pregnant women are diagnosed with cervical cancer during pregnancy. What should pregnant women do with late cervical precancerous lesions?

It is relatively rare to find cervical cancer during pregnancy, but it is possible. What should I do if I find cervical cancer during pregnancy? The treatment principles for cervical cancer during pregnancy are mainly based on the size of the gestational age and the stage of cervical cancer. There are mainly three situations:

If early cervical cancer is found in the middle or late stages of pregnancy, observation can be the main approach, and treatment can be started after childbirth.

If advanced cervical cancer is discovered early in pregnancy, cervical cancer should be treated aggressively as soon as possible;

If advanced cervical cancer is discovered late in pregnancy, early delivery can be achieved if conditions permit.

Generally speaking, both surgery and chemotherapy will have adverse effects on the fetus, and most doctors will recommend patients to have an abortion first. If cervical cancer patients are found and treated early, they are expected to retain their fertility and still have the possibility of becoming a mother after recovery. Even if some young patients insist on not having an abortion at the time, the possibility of spontaneous abortion is still very high when the disease progresses to a certain extent. At that time, the effect of treating cervical cancer is uncertain, and the final result may be the death of both mother and child.

The occurrence of cervical cancer in pregnant women should be determined based on the stage of cervical cancer, the month of pregnancy, and the mother's expectations for the fetus. If a pregnant woman with early cervical cancer wants to give birth, she can continue the pregnancy under close observation and wait for postpartum treatment. If the lesion is already in the late stage, the pregnancy should be terminated as soon as possible and given appropriate treatment. The treatment method is the same as that in the non-pregnant period. Some patients with invasive cervical cancer who are eager to have children can continue the pregnancy under close observation until the fetus is delivered and can survive before treatment. You can rest assured that cervical cancer has no teratogenic effect on the fetus.

What are the dangers of cervical cancer in pregnant women? During pregnancy, due to increased blood and lymph circulation, cancer cells are easy to spread. Estrogen levels increase during pregnancy, which can also promote the development of cancer. In addition, the compression and damage of the cervix during childbirth can accelerate the spread and metastasis of cancer cells. Cancer can harden the cervix, and the cervix cannot expand during childbirth, resulting in dystocia. At the same time, the cervix is easy to tear, causing heavy bleeding.

Although the chance of pregnant women developing cervical cancer is very small, we should not underestimate its existence. It brings great harm to female friends. If you are unfortunately diagnosed with cervical cancer during pregnancy, don’t worry too much. Maintain a good attitude and actively cooperate with the doctor’s treatment. What we should do is to be determined that we can defeat the disease.
