What is the normal thickness of the endometrium in women?

The uterus is an important organ for women to give birth to the next generation. The maintenance of the uterus is very important. Endometrial thickening is a common uterine disease. So what is the normal endometrial thickness?

The thickness of a woman's endometrium is not fixed, but changes regularly with the onset of menstruation. The endometrium is divided into two layers: the basal layer and the functional layer. The basal layer will not be affected by changes in ovarian hormones during the menstrual cycle and will not change during the menstrual period, but the functional layer will undergo periodic changes due to changes in ovarian hormones, and will necrotize and leak during the menstrual period, so the thickness of a woman's endometrium will change with the menstrual cycle.

Taking 28 days as a menstrual cycle, the periodicity of the endometrium can be divided into three stages: menstrual period, proliferative period, and secretory period. The first to fourth days of the menstrual cycle are the menstrual period; at this time, under the action of progesterone, the endometrium will show a secretory reaction; the fifth to fourteenth days are the stage of follicle maturation, that is, the proliferative period; the endometrium and stromal cells will be in a proliferative state; the last is the secretory period; the female progesterone and estrogen levels will decrease, activating the synthesis of prostaglandins in the endometrium, stimulating the contraction of the uterine muscle layer and causing continuous spasm of the spiral arterioles in the functional layer of the endometrium, and the blood flow of the endometrium will decrease. At this time, the thickness of the endometrium can reach 8 to 10 mm.

The main surgical treatment is curettage and aspiration, which is usually suitable for older women who have no fertility requirements. However, women with poor surgical tolerance need to be cautious when choosing surgical treatment. Of course, if young women do not respond to drug treatment, they also need to consider surgical treatment to avoid making the condition worse or even the possibility of cancer.
