6 foods contain excessive levels of aloesin, and Taiwan Salt is also affected

Don’t eat foods that claim to help you lose weight! Following the incident last year where the aloin content in the health food "Green Dietary Fiber Capsules" exceeded the standard and caused severe diarrhea in users, the Food and Drug Administration today (15th) announced the results of an inspection of 10 aloe vera foods on the market. The aloin content in 6 of them exceeded the natural background value, and the aloin content in "Collagen Qianzi Capsules" produced by Taiwan Salt Industry Corporation exceeded the standard by nearly 16 times, the highest.

Taiwan salt products with excessive aloesin content top the list

The 6 unqualified aloe vera products exceeded the standard by 1.47 to 15.9 times. In order of the severity of the excessive aloesin content, they are: Tai Salt Corporation's "Collagen Qianzi Capsules" (aloesin content 50,576 mg/kg), Yidu Medical's "burner double heat fermentation tablets" (47,886 mg/kg), Singpharma's "Ubiquito Smooth Beauty Tablets" (32,733 mg/kg), Sino-American Pharmaceutical's "KOKOKG-Sedimentation Resistance" (20,065 mg/kg), Lianhua Foods' "KGCHECK Fiber Oil Removing Tablets" (87.4 mg/kg), and Far East Biotech's "Fiber Eats Fiber Pro-Fiber Control 33" (7,399 mg/kg).

Tolerable amount of aloin in food: 3000 mg/kg

The Food and Drug Administration stated that aloe vera can be used as a food ingredient, but it must be "completely peeled" before it can be processed and used. Aloin is mainly found in the peel, with only a small amount in the pulp. If the peel is not completely peeled or there is contamination during processing, aloe vera pulp products may still contain trace amounts of aloin.

According to the relevant regulations of "Aloe Vera Food Management", the aloe vera raw materials used as food ingredients, after grinding and drying, etc. Processed powder, must have an aloin background value of about 3000 mg/kg. Excessive amounts will be unqualified. In addition, if aloin is purified and separated into specific components, it cannot be used as a food ingredient.

The Food and Drug Administration stated that the above six unqualified products have violated the provisions of the Food Safety and Sanitation Management Act, and businesses should take the initiative to stop manufacturing, processing, selling and arranging recalls.
