What are the symptoms of Bartholinitis?

Nowadays, gynecological diseases among women are becoming more and more common, but a very small number of them will suffer from Bartholin's gland inflammation. So, what are the Bartholin's glands? What symptoms can we grasp? With these questions, the editor will answer them one by one.

What are Bartholin's glands?

Bartholin glands are also called Bartholin glands. They are two small round or oval bodies the size of soybeans, reddish yellow in color, located on both sides of the vaginal opening, on the posterior and medial sides of the vestibular bulbs, connected to the vestibular bulbs, and often overlap with them. Their deep parts are attached to the deep transverse muscles of the perineum, and their surface is covered with the bulbospongiosus muscle (vaginal sphincter). The greater vestibular glands are complex tubular glands, with a hard texture. They can be touched through the skin near the posterior commissure of the labia. Their excretory ducts are 1.52 cm long, slanting inward and forward, and open in the vaginal vestibule, on both sides of the vaginal opening, in the groove between the hymen or the hymen trace attachment and the posterior part of the labia minora. Their secretions are viscous and have the effect of lubricating the vaginal vestibule.

Bartholinitis causes and symptoms

The main cause is that when the vulva is contaminated during sexual intercourse, childbirth or other circumstances, pathogens easily invade and cause inflammation. The pathogens are mostly Staphylococcus, Escherichia coli, Streptococcus and Enterococcus. With the increase in the incidence of sexually transmitted diseases, there are also anaerobic bacteria, among which Bacteroides is the most common, because Bacteroides is a normal vaginal resident and has a higher chance of infection. This disease is often a mixed infection and often occurs during the reproductive period.

The main symptoms are pain and swelling on one side of the vulva, often accompanied by chills, fever and shivering. The lower 1/3 of the labia majora is locally red and tender. If a cyst is formed, an egg-sized lump can be seen with a sense of fluctuation. The lymph nodes in the corresponding area are swollen. If not handled properly, it may recur. After the acute stage of Bartholinitis, a Bartholin gland cyst may form.
