Does a thick endometrium make it difficult to get pregnant?

Does endometrial thickening affect pregnancy? What is endometrial thickening? Endometrial thickening refers to a group of proliferative lesions that occur in the endometrium, and a few can slowly develop into cancer. The cause of endometrial thickening is mainly related to long-term estrogen stimulation. Many patients with endometrial thickening are very worried about whether they can have children. So, does endometrial thickening affect pregnancy?

From the classification of endometrial hyperplasia, there are three main types: simple, complex and atypical. From the probability of developing endometrial cancer, simple hyperplasia is about 1%, complex hyperplasia is about 3%, and atypical hyperplasia is as high as 30%. Does endometrial hyperplasia affect pregnancy? Endometrial thickening does affect pregnancy. In order to reduce the possibility of eventual cancer, doctors will recommend menopausal women with atypical endometrial hyperplasia and women who do not have fertility requirements to remove the uterus. However, in recent years, as the age of onset of this disease has become younger and younger, even including some young women who have not yet given birth, they have to consider whether to retain fertility during treatment. This is a very acute problem.

Will having endometrial thickening affect pregnancy? The answer is: Yes. In order to give young women a dream of becoming a mother, doctors will take conservative treatment, that is, progesterone treatment for endometrial thickening. Using a large dose of progesterone for 3 consecutive months, more than 80% of patients with endometrial thickening without atypical hyperplasia can achieve complete relief of lesions. After 3 months, routine reexamination of endometrial lesions is required. If the effect is not ideal, treatment can be continued for another 3 months. If endometrial atypical lesions persist after half a year of treatment, it often indicates progesterone resistance, poor prognosis of patients, and increased chance of developing endometrial cancer.

Does endometrial thickening affect pregnancy? After treatment, if the lesions disappear, you should give birth as soon as possible. Because even if patients with atypical endometrial hyperplasia can be completely relieved through treatment, the recurrence rate is still high, and some assisted reproductive technologies can be considered to enable patients to give birth as soon as possible. If the patient has no plans to give birth in the near future, some contraceptives can be considered to maintain the efficacy, but close follow-up is still required. It is important to note that even after giving birth, the patient should continue to monitor the condition of the endometrium. Once lesions occur, the uterus should be removed as soon as possible.
