What to do if infection occurs after abortion

Post-abortion infection occurs within 1 to 7 days after the operation, with fever, abdominal pain, increased secretions and foul odor, etc. This is caused by bacterial infection. There are many types of pathogens, mainly anaerobic streptococci, hemolytic streptococci, staphylococci, Escherichia coli, etc. Most patients are mixedly infected with several bacteria. The main sources of bacteria are self-infection and external infection.

After bacteria invade, the severity and development of the disease vary due to the strength of the bacteria's virulence and the body's resistance. In mild cases, it causes local vaginal infection; in severe cases, it causes inflammation of the endometrium and pelvic connective tissue, and the patient has fever and abdominal pain. If not controlled in time, it will lead to infectious shock and endanger life.

Prevention of infection after artificial abortion should be the main focus. Go to the hospital to check whether there is inflammation in the vagina, cervix, and pelvis before the operation. If there is inflammation, treat it in time and then perform the operation after recovery.

Reproductive organ infection within 2 weeks after abortion is usually related to the surgery. The infection rate is similar to that of general intrauterine operation. Acute endometritis after abortion is now rare. The main reasons for infection are: ① The aseptic operation is not strict. ② The patient has vaginitis, cervicitis or pelvic inflammatory disease before the operation and has not been treated. ③ The operation time is too long. ④ Cotton balls and gauze are left in the vagina and not removed in time. ⑤ The patient has poor immunity. ⑥ Do not pay attention to hygiene after surgery. The treatment measures are to strictly follow aseptic operation, give treatment before surgery for those with inflammation, and give antibiotics after surgery to prevent infection.
