What complications may occur during abortion surgery?

In recent years, the number of abortions has increased, and the complications caused have also gradually increased, causing great adverse effects on patients' lives.

1. Abortion syndrome

During abortion surgery, patients are very likely to develop abortion syndrome, also known as cardio-cerebral syndrome, with an incidence of about 12%. Patients may suddenly experience a series of symptoms during the operation, such as bradycardia, arrhythmia, low blood pressure, pale complexion, profuse sweating, etc. In severe cases, even fainting and convulsions may occur, and effective measures must be taken in time for treatment.

2. Irregular menstruation

Artificial abortion surgery causes great damage to the endometrium. A small amount of vaginal bleeding may occur 1 to 2 days after the operation, which generally returns to normal after a period of time. A very small number of patients experience irregular menstrual cycles, prolonged menstruation, increased or decreased menstrual volume, short or prolonged menstrual cycles, and even amenorrhea. This may be related to the dysfunction of the reproductive endocrine axis after artificial abortion surgery. Most of them can recover naturally. For those who cannot recover, the cause should be identified and symptomatic treatment should be given.

3. Uterine perforation

Uterine perforation is mainly caused by damage to instruments or improper operation during surgery, such as probes, cervical dilators, straws, scrapers or oval forceps, etc. Most perforations are caused by probes and cervical dilators. Generally, when probing the uterine cavity or performing a surgical operation, if you suddenly feel that there is no resistance or bottom when the instrument enters the uterine cavity, or if the pregnant woman feels sudden severe abdominal pain, the pain worsens during traction, or sweats, etc., the possibility of uterine perforation should be considered.
