Comparison of treatment methods for acute and chronic adnexitis

Clinically, adnexitis is divided into two types: acute and chronic, and the treatment methods are different.

1. Treatment of acute adnexitis

Most patients with acute adnexitis will experience obvious bilateral lower abdominal pain and fever, and the fever can usually reach as high as 38°C, accompanied by chills. There are two main methods of clinical treatment, namely anti-inflammatory and surgery.

During the anti-inflammatory treatment phase, sufficient antibiotics should be given to patients in the early stages of the disease. However, since it is difficult to determine which pathogen is causing the disease, broad-spectrum antibiotics should be selected as much as possible and the course of treatment should be sufficient. Generally, one course of treatment is 7 days, and a period of consolidation treatment should be followed up after the inflammation has improved. Surgical treatment is generally considered only when the symptoms of acute adnexitis have not improved after 72 hours of anti-inflammatory treatment.

2. Treatment of chronic adnexitis

Chronic adnexitis is often caused by the acute adnexitis not being treated thoroughly or the patient's poor physical condition causing the acute inflammation to prolong. Unlike acute adnexitis, there are three main clinical treatment methods for chronic adnexitis, namely supportive therapy, which improves the body's immunity and the ability to resist diseases through daily nutritional support and appropriate physical exercise for patients; drug therapy, patients can use some Chinese patent medicines under the guidance of doctors to relieve symptoms; physical therapy, such as laser, microwave, ion penetration therapy, etc., to promote local blood circulation, improve the nutritional status of body tissues, improve their metabolic capacity, and facilitate the absorption and disappearance of inflammation.
