Fallopian tube disease can cause ectopic pregnancy

The causes of ectopic pregnancy are relatively complex, among which fallopian tube lesions are a major cause.

1. Chronic salpingitis

Chronic salpingitis is clinically divided into tubal mucositis and perisalpingitis, both of which are common causes of ectopic pregnancy. Among them, tubal mucositis can cause adhesion of the mucosal folds, leading to narrowing of the tubal lumen, affecting its normal peristalsis, and hindering the normal movement of the fertilized egg in the fallopian tube, eventually causing the fertilized egg to be forced to implant in the middle of its movement and causing ectopic pregnancy. Perisalpingitis is mainly caused by inflammatory exudation of the serosal layer and seromuscular layer of the fallopian tube, which causes adhesion and distortion around it, leading to the adverse consequence of ectopic pregnancy.

2. Fallopian tube dysplasia or abnormal function

Hypoplasia or dysfunction of the fallopian tube can lead to adverse effects such as excessively long fallopian tubes, poor development of the fallopian tube muscle layer, and lack of fallopian tube mucociliary cells, ultimately causing ectopic pregnancy.

3. Fallopian tube sterilization

Various forms of tubal sterilization surgery are a common cause of ectopic pregnancy, such as postoperative anastomosis recanalization, tubal anastomosis, or tubal fistula caused by surgery, which can induce ectopic pregnancy. In addition, the placement of an intrauterine device is also a cause of ectopic pregnancy, mainly because the placement of the device is prone to fallopian tube inflammation.
