What should be paid attention to when using forceps curettage for abortion

Curettage is a more serious type of artificial abortion and must be performed in hospital. During this procedure, the following should be noted:

1. Strictly master indications and contraindications

Indications: Patients who want to terminate pregnancy between 10 and 14 weeks of pregnancy without contraindications, or those who are not suitable to continue the pregnancy due to certain diseases, or those who have failed other abortion methods.

Contraindications: Patients with genital malformation or inflammation; patients in the acute stage of various diseases or severe systemic diseases who cannot tolerate surgery; patients with body temperature higher than 37.5℃ twice before surgery.

2. Pay attention to preoperative preparation

Such patients need to make relevant preparations before surgery, such as preoperative cervical preparation: first use a rubber catheter to dilate the cervix, slowly insert a catheter of a suitable size into the cervix 12 hours before surgery, and remove it during surgery; 3 hours before surgery, take prostaglandin preparations orally, intramuscularly, or vaginally to dilate and soften the cervix.

3. Things to note during surgery

For patients who are nervous or sensitive to pain, cervical mucosal anesthetics, paracervical block anesthesia or intravenous anesthesia should be used before cervical dilation. Intravenous anesthesia should be monitored by an anesthesiologist to prevent anesthesia accidents.

First, rupture the fetal membrane and drain the amniotic fluid, then use uterine contraction drugs as appropriate; after clamping the placenta and fetal tissue with an oval forceps, use a suitable straw to insert into the uterine cavity for suction, and finally use a curette to clean the uterus and measure the depth of the uterine cavity again to determine whether it is consistent with the depth measured before the operation. At the same time, observe whether the fetus is intact, whether the patient has bleeding or injury, etc. If the uterine contraction is poor, oxytocin can be appropriately used.
