Causes of bleeding after abortion

Artificial abortion refers to the termination of pregnancy by surgical method at 3 months of pregnancy, including vacuum aspiration and forceps curettage. Since any surgery has certain risks, women who undergo artificial abortion may experience various complications such as intraoperative bleeding, uterine perforation, artificial abortion comprehensive reaction, and post-abortion bleeding. Among them, post-abortion bleeding is more common, and its main causes include:

1. Western medical causes

If a woman has vaginal bleeding for more than 10 days after an artificial abortion, with continuous bleeding or excessive bleeding, or if there is heavy vaginal bleeding again after the bleeding stops, it is called post-abortion bleeding. Its occurrence is related to factors such as residual tissue in the uterine cavity, poor uterine contraction, uterine cavity infection or coagulation dysfunction. During treatment, the specific cause of the patient's disease must be identified and targeted treatment should be carried out according to the cause.

2. TCM etiology and pathogenesis

Traditional Chinese medicine believes that the main causes of post-abortion bleeding are damage to the Chong, Ren and uterus during the abortion surgery, or residual tissue in the uterine cavity, which blocks the uterus; or insufficient qi and blood in the body, and loss of qi due to abortion, which causes the Chong and Ren meridians to lose their firmness; or because the blood chamber is opening after the operation, damp-heat evil takes advantage of the opportunity to enter, disturbing the Chong, Ren and uterus and causing bleeding. After syndrome differentiation and classification, post-abortion bleeding can be divided into syndrome of uterine obstruction, syndrome of qi and blood deficiency, and syndrome of damp-heat stagnation. During treatment, the patient's symptoms, signs, tongue, pulse and other factors should be comprehensively considered before prescribing and using medicines.
