TCM's understanding of the etiology of trichomonas vaginitis

Trichomonas vaginitis is a type of vaginitis caused by Trichomonas vaginalis. The main symptoms of patients are increased thin, foamy leucorrhea and vulvar itching, which may be accompanied by burning sensation, pain and sexual intercourse pain. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that trichomoniasis is caused by dampness and heat accumulation, and insect erosion of the genitals. Dampness and heat are intertwined, and the heat cannot be passed and the dampness cannot be discharged. Common symptoms include body heat that does not rise, thirst without desire to drink more, headache, heaviness and pain in the body, abdominal distension and loss of appetite, short and yellow urine, diarrhea, red tongue with yellow and greasy coating, and slippery and rapid pulse.

Dampness and heat can be divided into internal and external. For example, if one lives in a wetland for a long time, dampness may invade the body, stagnate and turn into heat, or if dampness and heat enter the body during menstruation or after childbirth, this is exogenous dampness and heat. If one's spleen is weak, or if the liver qi is stagnant, wood overcomes the spleen and earth, the spleen loses its healthy function, and water and dampness are retained inside the body, stagnating in the lower part of the body and accumulating and turning into heat, this is endogenous dampness and heat.

When dampness and heat accumulate and the ligaments are not firm, the vaginal discharge increases and becomes yellow. When dampness and heat in the lower part of the body cause the bladder to fail to function, stranguria may occur. When dampness and evil permeate for a long time and become toxic, or when the heat and toxicity infect the evil qi, the heat forces the blood to flow indiscriminately, or when dampness and toxicity corrode the skin, pus and blood in the vagina may be seen, or "genital erosion" or "genital sores" may be seen. When dampness and decay breed insects, or when health preservation is not careful, the insects may directly invade the genitals, and the insects may erode the genitals, causing itching and burning pain in the genitals.

Although the disease is in the genitals, it is often related to the liver, spleen and other internal organs, and is mostly caused by dampness. External use of Chinese medicine lotion: 30 grams of Heshi, 15 grams each of Sophora flavescens, Wolfsbane, Cnidium monnieri, Radix Angelicae Pubescentis, and Polygonum aviculare, decoct in water for fumigation and sitting bath. During treatment, pay attention to keeping the local area clean. Underwear and utensils that contact the vulva should be boiled and disinfected to prevent re-infection.
