What complications may occur after abortion?

Artificial abortion refers to the termination of pregnancy by surgical methods within 3 months of pregnancy, including vacuum aspiration and forceps curettage. During the process of artificial abortion, some complications may occur, mainly including:

1. Comprehensive reaction to artificial abortion

Women may experience bradycardia, arrhythmia, decreased blood pressure, pale face, cold sweats, dizziness, chest tightness, and even fainting and convulsions during or after an abortion.

2. Uterine perforation

During artificial abortion, if there is a sudden feeling of bottomlessness when the instrument enters the uterine cavity, or its depth is significantly greater than the size of the uterus during examination, it often indicates uterine perforation.

3. Incomplete uterine suction

If some pregnancy tissue remains in the uterine cavity, bleeding lasts more than 10 days after surgery, the amount of bleeding is excessive, or heavy bleeding occurs again after bleeding stops, the possibility of incomplete uterine aspiration should be considered.

4. Leakage

It was confirmed to be an intrauterine pregnancy, but no embryo or chorionic villi were aspirated during the operation.

5. Postoperative infection

The main symptoms of the patient are fever, lower abdominal pain, cloudy leucorrhea or irregular vaginal bleeding, and tenderness in the uterus or adnexal area during bimanual examination.

6. Bleeding after abortion

Vaginal bleeding lasts for more than 10 days after an artificial abortion, and the bleeding is continuous or heavy, or there is heavy bleeding again after the bleeding stops.

7. Adhesions in the uterine cavity or cervical os

Adhesions in the uterine cavity or internal cervical os should be considered if amenorrhea or oligomenorrhea occurs after abortion, accompanied by periodic lower abdominal distension and pain, or uterine enlargement and blood accumulation.

In addition to the above situations, some patients may also experience intraoperative bleeding and amniotic fluid embolism.
