Four major symptoms of adnexitis

Four major symptoms of adnexitis

Patients with adnexitis often experience symptoms such as abdominal pain, irregular menstruation, dysmenorrhea, and severe cases may also lead to infertility, as well as other symptoms of systemic discomfort, such as increased vaginal discharge, pain during sexual intercourse, gastrointestinal disorders, fatigue, labor interference, or mental and neurological symptoms and depression.

1. Abdominal pain: The patient's abdominal pain is related to the severity of the disease. It is usually a hidden discomfort, pain, swelling, and falling sensation in the lower back and sacrum, which is often aggravated by fatigue. Due to pelvic adhesions, there may be bladder and rectal filling pain or pain when emptying, or other bladder and rectal irritation symptoms, such as frequent urination and tenesmus.

2. Irregular menstruation: Irregular menstruation is one of the most common symptoms of patients with adnexitis, such as frequent menstruation, 2 or more times a month; excessive menstrual flow, and brown or dark brown menstrual color. The cause of frequent menstruation is related to pelvic congestion and ovarian dysfunction. The reason for excessive menstrual flow is due to chronic inflammation leading to uterine fibrosis, incomplete uterine involution or abnormal uterine position caused by adhesions, etc.

3. Infertility: Patients with adnexitis are infertile due to the pathological changes in the fallopian tubes, which form adhesions and blockages. This is often secondary infertility. Even if they can conceive, the chances of ectopic pregnancy, such as fallopian tube pregnancy, are higher.

4. Dysmenorrhea: Most patients experience dysmenorrhea one week before menstruation, and it gradually worsens until menstruation. This is due to pelvic congestion leading to stasis dysmenorrhea.
