Causes of menstrual vaginitis

Causes of menstrual vaginitis

The reason for female menstrual vaginitis is that the vaginal environment is often unstable due to the host's metabolic products, the bacteria's own products and exogenous factors. There are two sources of pathogens, namely, from the bacteria that originally parasitize in the vagina and from pathogens that invade from the outside.

Internal reasons

The vaginal flora is very complex. In addition to protozoa and fungi, it also includes many aerobic and anaerobic bacteria. These microorganisms can be divided into commensal and pathological ones. They all grow in a common environment, and there may be antagonism between the microorganisms. Another factor that affects their growth is the hydrogen ion concentration. At pH 3.8-4.2, it is conducive to the reproduction of commensal bacteria, especially lactobacillus, which is the main species in a healthy vagina. When menstruation comes, this balance is destroyed and the mutual restraint disappears. Therefore, the hydrogen ion concentration decreases, lactobacillus loses its advantage, and pathological bacteria are able to reproduce, resulting in symptoms of vaginitis.

External causes

During the menstrual period, when endocrine hormones change and the ecological balance of the vagina is disrupted, these resident bacteria will become pathogenic bacteria, break through the vaginal barrier and cause infection; if women do not change sanitary napkins frequently during menstruation or the sanitary napkins are of poor quality, it may also cause menstrual vaginitis; if women do not pay attention to personal hygiene during menstruation, or have sexual intercourse during menstruation, or take a sitz bath during menstruation, etc., it will also cause contamination of the genitals and lead to inflammation.
