TCM Syndrome Differentiation of Uterine Fibroids

Uterine fibroids, also known as uterine leiomyoma, are the most common benign tumors of the female genitals, which seriously affect women's physical and mental health. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that the onset of uterine fibroids is related to factors such as cold stagnation in the uterus, qi stagnation and blood stasis, and can be included in diseases such as abdominal masses, metrorrhagia, and leucorrhea. According to the patient's symptoms, it can be divided into 5 types of syndromes, the main contents are as follows:

1. Qi stagnation and blood stasis type

Patients may experience lower abdominal distension or tingling, depression, premenstrual breast tenderness, premature menstruation or amenorrhea, prolonged menstruation, prolonged spotting, dysmenorrhea, or increased leucorrhea, ecchymoses or petechiae on the edges of the tongue, thin tongue coating, and a wiry pulse.

2. Cold and dampness stagnation type

The patient has symptoms of cold pain in the lower abdomen, preference for warmth, delayed menstruation, scanty and light-colored menstruation, loose stools, dull tongue, white and moist tongue coating, and deep and tight pulse.

3. Phlegm-dampness and blood stasis type

The patient presents with lower abdominal distension, fullness in the epigastric area, fullness and discomfort, excessive sputum, excessive and sticky vaginal discharge, fat and dark tongue, greasy white tongue coating, and a deep and slippery pulse.

4. Damp-heat with blood stasis type

The patient presents with lumbar pain, heavy vaginal discharge, yellowish color, odor, and some patients may have a low fever. The tongue is red, the coating is yellow and greasy, and the pulse is slippery and rapid.

5. Yin deficiency and internal heat type

The patient has dark red menstrual blood, hot sensation in the five parts of the body, dry mouth and throat, dry stool, and occasional metrorrhagia. The tongue is red, the coating is thin, and the pulse is thin and rapid.
