Symptoms of adnexitis

Symptoms of adnexitis

Among the female reproductive organs, the ovaries and fallopian tubes are called uterine appendages. Adnexitis refers to a disease caused by pathogenic microorganisms invading the reproductive organs and causing infection of the fallopian tubes and ovaries. It is more common in daily life and can be divided into acute and chronic types.

1. Acute adnexitis

The main symptoms are acute lower abdominal pain, with abdominal prolapse, increased leucorrhea, and possible increase in body temperature or blood pressure. The fever is mostly high, with chills or shivering, followed by irregular remittent fever. During gynecological examination, there is obvious tenderness and rebound pain in the adnexal area. Routine blood tests show an increase in the number of white blood cells and a significant increase in the proportion of neutrophils. If acute adnexitis is not treated promptly or thoroughly, it can develop into chronic adnexitis.

2. Chronic adnexitis

Due to repeated attacks of chronic inflammation, the pelvic cavity is congested, the connective tissue is fibrotic, and adhesions of pelvic organs occur. Patients often present with varying degrees of abdominal pain, lower abdominal distension, pain, and lumbar pain. The symptoms are often aggravated during menstruation or after fatigue, and are often accompanied by increased leucorrhea and irregular menstruation. Gynecological examinations can show tenderness and thickening in the bilateral or unilateral adnexal areas, or tender lumps. Laboratory tests show that the white blood cell count may be increased or normal.

It should be noted that some symptoms of adnexitis are not obvious, but some inflammations, such as chronic inflammation of the fallopian tubes, can lead to fibrosis, adhesions and obstruction of the fallopian tubes, which is also one of the main causes of post-marital infertility or ectopic pregnancy. Therefore, if adnexitis is suspected, it should be diagnosed and treated early.
