Under normal circumstances, after fertilization, the egg in a woman's body will move along the fallopian tube into the uterus, where it will implant and develop on the inner wall of the uterus. After conducting experiments on mice, scholars at Vanderbilt University in the United States found that tetrahydrocannabinol, the main substance in marijuana, can seriously disrupt the above physiological process of the fertilized egg. Scholars from Vanderbilt University conducted experiments on some female mice that had just conceived but whose fertilized eggs had not yet implanted in the uterus. They injected THC into several female mice for 4 to 5 consecutive days, while other female mice were not injected with any chemical substances. A few days later, the test results showed that all mice injected with THC had ectopic pregnancies, while the fertilized eggs in the mice that were not injected with any chemical substances successfully implanted in the uterus and began to develop. Scholars at Vanderbilt University believe that the above phenomenon occurs mainly because the tetrahydrocannabinol in marijuana interacts with the CB1 receptor and CB2 receptor in the fertilized egg. In the normal process of conception, the CB1 receptor and CB2 receptor in the fertilized egg will be attached with an appropriate amount of anandamide produced by the uterus. This process can ensure that the fertilized egg can be implanted and developed smoothly in the uterine wall. However, after the tetrahydrocannabinol interacts with the CB1 receptor and CB2 receptor in the fertilized egg, an excessive amount of anandamide will be attached to the CB1 receptor and CB2 receptor in the fertilized egg. These excessive anandamides hinder the fertilized egg from moving to the uterus to implant and develop, and eventually cause the occurrence of ectopic pregnancy. Scholars from Vanderbilt University said that the experiments on mice are completely applicable to humans, and that ectopic pregnancy in women is very dangerous. This phenomenon not only prevents the normal development of the fetus, but also easily causes heavy bleeding in pregnant women. Scholars from Vanderbilt University recommend that women who want to get pregnant stay away from marijuana. |
