Uterine fibroids can cause infertility

Uterine fibroids are the most common benign tumors in women, with an incidence of about 20% to 25% in women of childbearing age. Therefore, whether uterine fibroids can cause infertility is a concern for women. In fact, about 25% to 40% of women with uterine fibroids are infertile due to the following reasons:

① Fibroids located in the cervix of the uterus will block the cervix as they grow, affecting the entry of sperm into the uterine cavity. Fibroids located in the uterine cornu will compress the entrance of the fallopian tube, affecting the patency of the fallopian tube, obstructing the passage of sperm to the fallopian tube and causing infertility.

② Fibroids located under the uterine mucosa can cause insufficient blood supply, infection, ulcers or atrophy of the endometrium on the surface of the uterus, thereby affecting the normal implantation of the fertilized egg and causing infertility.

③ Larger uterine fibroids or multiple fibroids will change the morphology of the uterine cavity, thereby affecting the normal implantation of the fertilized egg and causing infertility.

④Some uterine fibroids can cause bleeding and lead to uterine cavity infection, which in turn can lead to inflammation and blockage of the fallopian tubes, causing infertility.

⑤ Patients with uterine fibroids may also suffer from anovulation, resulting in infertility.
