Diagnostic Basis of True and False Cervical Erosion

Diagnostic Basis of True and False Cervical Erosion

The diagnosis of cervical erosion is not only to check the extent of the spread of cervical erosion, but also to pay attention to the diagnosis of true cervical erosion and false cervical erosion, which will greatly affect the subsequent treatment. The diagnosis of true and false cervical erosion mainly includes the following contents.

1. True erosion

Because the surface of the cervix is often covered with a lot of mucus or purulent secretions, these secretions long-term irritate and soak the squamous epithelium around the external os of the cervix. Coupled with the inflammatory infiltration of the deep cervical tissue, the squamous epithelium covering the surface of the cervix loses its vitality and falls off, forming ulcers. This is the basis for the diagnosis of true cervical erosion.

However, the erosion surface is soon covered by the surrounding columnar epithelium, forming a granular, shiny red area, which is called pseudo-erosion. Most of the cervical erosions we find in our daily work are pseudo-erosions, while true erosion is only a short stage in the process of this disease, and its prognosis will be that the surface is covered by columnar epithelium and becomes pseudo-erosion.

2. Pseudo-erosion

The pathological concept of erosion refers to the shedding of the surface epithelium. The most common cervical erosion in clinical work is the red area around the external cervical opening. During colposcopy, after applying 3% acetic acid on the surface of the red area, it can be seen that the red area has a "grape cluster" change, which is caused by columnar epithelial edema.

In the diagnosis of cervical erosion, if a biopsy is performed on the site, columnar epithelium can be seen under a microscope. Therefore, if the pathological definition of erosion is strictly followed, this area does not belong to erosion, so some people suggest calling it pseudo-erosion. Most cervical erosions seen in clinical work belong to this type.

The diagnosis of cervical erosion is very important. When patients discover the disease and go to the hospital for relevant examinations, the regularity of the medical equipment and whether the doctor is experienced have a great impact on the accuracy of the diagnosis of cervical erosion. This is also an issue that patients need to consider more.
