Lower abdominal pain is also a common symptom of dysmenorrhea. The pain often starts several hours before menstruation and is most severe on the first day of menstruation. It is paroxysmal, spasmodic, congestive or progressively worsening. The duration varies and it usually eases after 2-3 days. When the pain is severe, it can radiate to the lumbosacral region, vulva and anus. Some symptoms of dysmenorrhea may be accompanied by systemic symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, fatigue, irritability, cold limbs, pale complexion, etc.

After the onset of severe abdominal pain, the symptoms of dysmenorrhea turn into moderate paroxysmal pain, which lasts about 12 to 24 hours. The pain gradually disappears after the menstrual blood flows smoothly, and sometimes women need to stay in bed for 2 to 3 days. The high incidence, wide range, short cycle and great pain have seriously affected the work and study of many women and reduced the quality of life.
