Organic lesions or functional disorders of the pituitary gland can affect the secretion of gonadotropin, thereby affecting ovarian function and causing amenorrhea. (1) Pituitary infarction: Common symptoms include Sheehan syndrome, which is characterized by postpartum hemorrhage and amenorrhea, lack of lactation, loss of libido, hair loss, decline of secondary sexual characteristics, and atrophy of reproductive organs. Symptoms include adrenal insufficiency, hypothyroidism, chills, lethargy, and hypotension. (2) Pituitary tumors: When various glandular cells in the pituitary gland develop prolactin adenomas, growth hormone adenomas, thyrotropin adenomas, adrenocorticotropic hormone adenomas, and non-functional pituitary adenomas, the tumor secretes hormones that inhibit GnRH secretion or compress secretory cells, resulting in a decrease in gonadotropin secretion and amenorrhea. Amenorrhea and lactation syndrome is common in gynecology, with clinical manifestations of amenorrhea and lactation. In severe cases, headaches and changes in visual fields occur due to the increase in the size of the pituitary adenoma. Other pituitary adenomas are treated in the endocrinology department. |
