The key to treating amenorrhea caused by mental stress is to regulate menstruation and nourish blood

Ms. Wang is young, just 26 years old, and not married yet. However, she has been troubled by menstrual problems for several years. She found that her menstruation was infrequent over three years ago, and she has experienced amenorrhea over the past year.

Ms. Wang had her first menstruation at the age of 13. Her menstrual flow was usually heavy, and she had lower abdominal pain during the period, but no other symptoms. Three years ago, she had to take the postgraduate entrance examination. She was very nervous and had a lot of review tasks. Gradually, her menstruation began to become less frequent, sometimes only once every 2 or 3 months, and later she simply stopped having menstruation. Irregular menstruation made Ms. Wang upset and anxious, and she also had breast pain, dry mouth and tongue, back pain, dry stools, and scanty vaginal discharge. When her family and friends advised her to pay attention to this situation, she came to the hospital. A gynecological examination showed no abnormalities in the uterus and appendages, and she was later diagnosed with secondary amenorrhea.

Later, she went to see a Chinese doctor after being introduced by a friend. The doctor found that Miss Wang's tongue was dark red, her tongue coating was white, and her pulse was thin and stringy. The final diagnosis was that she had qi stagnation and blood stasis, and Chong and Ren meridians were not smooth. The treatment should be to promote qi and blood circulation, nourish the kidney and regulate menstruation.

Chinese medicine believes that Miss Wang's amenorrhea is mainly due to excessive mental stress, which causes liver qi stagnation, poor qi movement, blood stasis, Chong and Ren obstruction, and amenorrhea. It is also related to congenital kidney deficiency and Chong and Ren deficiency, so it first shows infrequent menstruation and then amenorrhea. In treatment, it is often treated with Cyperus rotundus, Leonurus japonicus, Millettia reticulata, Salvia miltiorrhiza, and Chinese rose, which can nourish blood and promote menstruation. In addition, the doctor also used Wuzi Yanzong Pills to nourish the kidney and regulate menstruation, which is a fundamental treatment. Dipsacus asper is good at treating female sexual insufficiency. It can improve gonadal function and promote ovulation, so it is often used to treat amenorrhea.

During the first visit, the doctor prescribed the following medicine:

10g peach kernel, 10g safflower, 10g angelica, 10g chuanxiong, 10g raw rehmannia root, 10g cooked rehmannia root, 10g bupleurum root, 10g platycodon, 10g aurantium, 10g cyperus, 30g salvia miltiorrhiza, 30g motherwort, 30g millettia reticulata, 10g fenugreek, 15g dipsaccharum, 10g ligustrum lucidum, 10g wolfberry, 10g dodder seed. Take 1 dose per day, decocted in water.

During the second visit, Ms. Wang still had no menstruation, but she had a slight pain in her lower abdomen, and her tongue and pulse did not change. The doctor added 10g of Plantago seeds (wrapped and decocted), 10g of Schisandra chinensis, 10g of Raspberry, and 20g of Cistanche deserticola to the original prescription. She took it for another half a month.

During the third visit, Ms. Wang told the doctor with surprise that her menstruation had come, but the amount was very small and dark red, and she still had dull pain in her lower abdomen, dry mouth, backache, dark red tongue, white fur, and a thin and smooth pulse. This time, the doctor made a slight adjustment based on the first visit prescription and asked her to take 7 doses. He also told her to take 1 pill of Babao Kunshun Pill in the morning and 1 pill of Bazhen Yimu Pill in the evening for a total of 20 days.

After nearly 4 months of treatment, Ms. Wang's menstruation basically returned to normal.
