Experts explain the causes of secondary dysmenorrhea

The incidence of secondary dysmenorrhea is relatively low among dysmenorrhea patients, but it is very harmful to women's health. What are the common causes of secondary dysmenorrhea ?

Generally, the common causes of secondary dysmenorrhea are:

1. Insufficient hygiene during menstruation, pregnancy, and postpartum period; starting sexual life too early; having many sexual partners (after sexual openness) can cause secondary dysmenorrhea

2. Repeated artificial abortion or intrauterine operation may cause adhesion inflammation and induce secondary dysmenorrhea.

3. Contraception: There is a certain relationship between the causes of secondary dysmenorrhea and tool contraception, especially the placement of intrauterine contraceptive devices (IUDs), which can often aggravate the degree of secondary dysmenorrhea. This may be because after the placement of the IUD, the production of prostaglandins (pg) in the endometrial tissue increases, leading to aggravated secondary dysmenorrhea. Contraceptives contain progesterone, which has the effect of relaxing the uterine smooth muscle, so it can relieve the pain symptoms caused by spasms.

4. Influence of menstrual cycle and duration: Generally, the severity of secondary dysmenorrhea is not affected by the length of the menstrual cycle. However, since secondary dysmenorrhea itself manifests as abdominal pain during menstruation, if the menstrual period is longer, the pain often lasts longer. This is most prominent in patients with endometriosis.

The above is an introduction to the common causes of secondary dysmenorrhea. I hope it will be helpful to you. For more questions about secondary dysmenorrhea, you can consult our online experts, who will answer them in detail.
