Vulvar leukoplakia is unbearable. What should we do? Experts tell you!

Medically, the whitening, roughening, and shrinking of the skin and mucous membranes of the female vulva due to various factors is called vulvar leukoplakia. Let our experts briefly introduce the causes of vulvar leukoplakia to you! I hope it will be helpful to you!

Experts point out the cause of vulvar leukoplakia! The canceration rate of vulvar leukoplakia is not high, generally less than 2%, and it can only be regarded as a precancerous lesion when the epithelium proliferates. People think that the name of vulvar leukoplakia is not ideal, so it was renamed chronic vulvar dystrophy. The cause is unknown. It is generally believed that there is a hormone in the dermis of the patient that can inhibit cell division and growth. This hormone can cause an imbalance between the growth of local connective tissue and metabolic stimulants. Clinically, it can be divided into three types: hyperplastic vulvar dystrophy, sclerosing lichen vulvar dystrophy, and mixed type.

Vulvar leukoplakia is usually accompanied by extreme itching, which can last for months or even decades. This itching is unbearable regardless of season and day and night. If accompanied by trichomonas vaginitis or candidal vaginitis, the itching symptoms will be more severe.

Since the cause is unknown, there is no specific treatment. Laser therapy can be tried, 2% hydrocortisone ointment can be used to relieve itching, or 2% testosterone propionate cod liver oil ointment can be applied. Usually, you should pay attention to keeping it clean and dry, avoid using soap or strong irritants to wash the vulva, and do not eat spicy or irritating foods. Clothes should be loose and changed frequently. It is better to wear soft cotton products.

Vulvar leukoplakia develops slowly. In the past, it was believed that there was a high chance of canceration and surgical excision was performed, but surgical treatment is no longer advocated. In the late stage, the vaginal opening may contract and narrow, the vulva and clitoris may shrink, and the surrounding tissues may lose elasticity.

Expert tip: If you show symptoms of a certain disease, do not delay diagnosis and go to a regular hospital for treatment in time to avoid delaying the disease and causing serious consequences.

The above is a brief introduction of the causes of vulvar leukoplakia by experts. I believe you already know it. If you have any questions about vulvar leukoplakia, please consult our online experts. We will serve you wholeheartedly!
