What causes abdominal lymphadenitis in children?

Lymphadenitis in the abdomen of children is usually caused by infection, common causes include bacterial or viral infection, and treatment should be based on the cause of infection or symptomatic treatment. Lymphadenitis is the response of lymph nodes to infection or inflammation, which is common after respiratory tract, digestive tract or urinary system infection.

1. Infection is the main cause. Bacterial infections such as streptococci and staphylococci, and viral infections such as Epstein-Barr virus and cytomegalovirus can all lead to lymphadenitis. The source of infection may come from tonsillitis, otitis media, gastroenteritis, etc. The pathogens spread to the abdominal lymph nodes through the lymphatic system, triggering an inflammatory response.

2. Immune system response. Children's immune systems are not fully developed, and their defense against external pathogens is weak, making them prone to lymphadenitis. After infection, the immune system is activated and the lymph nodes swell to remove pathogens, which is a normal defense mechanism.

3. Other factors. Certain autoimmune diseases, tumors or drug reactions may also cause lymphadenitis, but they are relatively rare. Long-term exposure to polluted environments, malnutrition or chronic diseases may increase the risk of disease.

In terms of treatment, the appropriate method should be selected according to the cause. Bacterial infections can be treated with antibiotics such as amoxicillin and cephalosporins; viral infections are mainly treated symptomatically, such as antipyretic and fluid replacement. For lymphadenitis caused by immune system abnormalities or tumors, further examination and individualized treatment plans are required.

Preventive measures include maintaining good hygiene habits, avoiding contact with sources of infection, and enhancing immunity. Regular physical examinations can help detect potential problems early. If a child has persistent fever, abdominal pain, or swollen lymph nodes, he or she should seek medical attention in time for a clear diagnosis and receive standardized treatment.
