What are the complications of abdominal wall endometriosis?

Abdominal wall endometriosis is a type of endometriosis that occurs in a special part of the body. It is generally believed that it is caused by endometrial fragments that are difficult to detect with the naked eye during cesarean section, which are scattered in the abdominal wall incision and implanted therein.

Abdominal wall endometriosis is a special type of endometriosis. With the increase in the cesarean section rate, the incidence of abdominal wall endometriosis has increased year by year. The incidence of abdominal wall endometriosis in full-term cesarean section is 0.03%~0.40%. The cause of the disease is generally believed to be that during the cesarean section, endometrial fragments that are difficult to detect with the naked eye are scattered in the abdominal wall incision and implanted in it. The clinical symptoms are nodules or lumps at the abdominal wall incision. Most lumps are closely related to menstruation. The lumps increase in size and pain before and during menstruation, and the pain is relieved and the lumps shrink after menstruation. Ultrasound examination can help with diagnosis.

The main symptoms and hazards of abdominal wall endometriosis are as follows:

1. Female infertility: It accounts for 40%-50% of endometriosis. Endometriosis can cause pelvic adhesions, hardening or even obstruction of the fallopian tubes, abnormal hormone metabolism and immune function, leading to the retrograde migration of the fertilized egg and the endometrium being out of sync, or the retrograde migration of the fertilized egg itself being blocked, resulting in infertility.

2. Menstrual disorders: Invaded by ectopic endometrium, the ovarian parenchyma tissue is destroyed, which affects hormone metabolism, resulting in menstrual disorders and increased vaginal bleeding during menstruation. In some cases, premenstrual spotting may also occur.

3. Pain during sexual intercourse: The ectopic endometrium causes the surrounding tissues to swell, and during sexual intercourse, the movement of the penis causes pain, which is more obvious in the early stages of menstruation.

4. Ovarian tumors: The ovaries are the favorite place for ectopic endometrium to "live". Whenever menstruation comes, menstrual blood will always remain in the ovaries, and the amount will increase. Slowly, a mass will form unknowingly.
