What causes cervical erosion and what are the hazards

Cervical erosion is a common gynecological phenomenon, mainly caused by factors such as changes in hormone levels, inflammatory stimulation, and physical damage. In most cases, there is no need to worry too much, but you need to be alert to the possible risks of infection or lesions. Cervical erosion itself is not a disease, but a manifestation of the outward migration of the cervical columnar epithelium, but long-term inflammation or infection may increase the risk of cervical lesions.

1. Changes in hormone levels are one of the common causes of cervical erosion. When women are in puberty, pregnancy or taking birth control pills, the estrogen level in their bodies increases, which may cause the cervical columnar epithelium to move outward, forming an erosion-like appearance. This situation usually does not require special treatment, and regular gynecological examinations are sufficient.

2. Inflammatory stimulation is also an important cause. Inflammations such as cervicitis and vaginitis may cause congestion and edema of cervical tissue, which in turn leads to erosion. Treating inflammation is the key. You can follow the doctor's advice to use antibiotics such as metronidazole and clindamycin, or topical medications such as clotrimazole suppositories.

3. Physical damage, such as frequent sexual intercourse, improper use of tampons or gynecological surgery, may cause mechanical damage to the cervix and lead to erosion. Avoid excessive stimulation, pay attention to personal hygiene, and use mild care products when necessary.

4. The main harm of cervical erosion is that it may mask other diseases. If accompanied by infection, it may cause pelvic inflammatory disease, infertility and other problems; if combined with human papillomavirus infection, it may increase the risk of cervical cancer. Regular cervical cytology and HPV testing are essential.

To prevent and treat cervical erosion, you can start from the following aspects: keep the vulva clean and avoid using irritating washes; pay attention to hygiene during sexual intercourse and use condoms; have regular gynecological examinations to detect and treat inflammation in time; consume more foods rich in vitamins C and E, such as citrus fruits and nuts, to enhance immunity; do appropriate exercise such as yoga and walking to promote blood circulation.

Although cervical erosion is mostly a physiological phenomenon, the potential risks cannot be ignored. Through a scientific lifestyle, regular examinations and timely treatment, the incidence of related diseases can be effectively reduced and women's health can be protected.
