Should uterine fibroids be removed during pregnancy?

Some pregnant women may ask: "Is it necessary to remove the fibroids?" During pregnancy, the uterus is very congested, and the risk of surgical removal of fibroids is very high. Since it will not affect pregnancy in most cases, it is of course not necessary to remove it. As for pregnant women who need a caesarean section, should the fibroids be removed at the same time as the caesarean section is performed?

Steps/Methods:

1. The most common fibroids are located in the muscle layer of the uterine wall, called intramural fibroids. In fact, uterine fibroids are very common, and about 30% of women of childbearing age suffer from uterine fibroids. Most patients have no symptoms, and if they do not undergo an ultrasound examination, they will not know that fibroids exist.

2. The true cause of uterine fibroids has not yet been determined, but their growth should be related to female hormones. The rise of female hormones during pregnancy generally causes the size of uterine fibroids to increase, but by around 20 weeks of pregnancy, their size will be almost stable.

3. After childbirth, as female hormones decrease, the size of the fibroids will slowly return to its original size before pregnancy. Traditional teachings are to avoid touching them as much as possible, because fibroids are benign and will shrink after childbirth. Small fibroids do not need to be removed at all, but large fibroids may face the risk of continuous bleeding when removed, which is not worth the loss.

Note: If the patient's fibroid is eight centimeters in size, but is outside the uterus and is only connected by a thin pedicle, the fibroid can be removed by simply removing the pedicle. The risk is very low and the fibroid can be removed successfully with the consent of the patient and her husband.

Women's body structure is naturally more sensitive than men's. Due to pressure from the environment, life, work, etc., gynecological diseases are increasing year by year. Therefore, when women find out that they have gynecological problems, they must go to a regular hospital for treatment as soon as possible, and don't lose their healthy body because of shyness.
