There are two types of adipose tissue in the body, namely white adipose tissue and brown adipose tissue; white fat can help the body store energy, while brown fat helps consume energy. Because obesity is a common health problem among modern people, white adipose tissue is also called "bad fat" and brown adipose tissue is called "good fat". "Cell Reports" recently published the latest publication from Washington University in St. Louis, USA. The research team said that by resisting specific proteins, there is a chance to convert white adipose tissue into brown adipose tissue. In experiments using mice as an animal model, the authors found that by blocking the activity of a protein called PexRAP in white adipose tissue, the tissue could be transformed into beige adipose tissue, which is between white and brown, and consume calories. The research was published in Cell Reports, Vol. 20, No. 12, pp. 2766-2774 This article is from ELSEVIER Global Pharmaceutical News |
