Women who gain weight in middle age should be careful about breast cancer! Mid-Autumn Festival mooncakes, don't worry about getting fat

October is International Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The latest research shows that being overweight, obese and having a sedentary lifestyle have been proven to increase the risk of breast cancer in postmenopausal women. Therefore, doctors recommend that women should control their weight appropriately and exercise regularly, which is the best way to prevent breast cancer.

According to a survey conducted by the National Health Administration, although the number of new breast cancer patients in the country is not the highest, the incidence rate is the highest, with an average of 70.7 cases per 100,000 people. This is more severe than colorectal cancer, which is the first of the top 10 cancers, with about 44.7 cases per 100,000 people. Women who have entered menopause are especially at risk of developing breast cancer if they do not manage their weight well.

To reduce the risk of breast cancer, you should first manage your weight

Huang Zhenqiao, attending physician at the Department of Breast Surgery at Taipei Medical University Hospital, pointed out that research data shows that if a woman's BMI (body mass index) is below 20 at the age of 20, and after menopause, her BMI increases by more than 5, or her waist circumference exceeds 90 cm, her chances of getting breast cancer increase by 2 times and 3.2 times respectively.

In addition, if a woman's BMI is greater than 20 at the age of 20 and she develops diabetes after menopause, her chance of getting breast cancer will increase by 3.3 times. In addition, the mortality rate of breast cancer patients with diabetes is 1.7 times higher than that of breast cancer patients without diabetes. Therefore, it is very important to control BMI and blood sugar and manage weight well.

Breast cancer prevention and treatment: Reduce sugar intake and stay away from diseases

Dr. Huang Zhenqiao said that with the Mid-Autumn Festival approaching, many patients are worried that eating pomelo will have adverse effects on their bodies. But in fact, the drugs currently used by breast cancer patients do not have obvious interactions with pomelo or grapefruit. If there are still concerns, it is recommended to leave at least 30 minutes between taking the medication and eating pomelo, and avoid excessive consumption.

On the other hand, in response to Pink October, International Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Taipei Medical University Hospital has launched the "Reduce Sugar in Desserts: Nutritionists Teach You How to Make Snow Skin Mooncakes" event, inviting neighbors to DIY delicious low-calorie mooncakes together to promote a low-sugar diet and stay away from diseases.

Reduce sugar in making snowy mooncakes to make them healthier

Nutritionist Lin Li-Cen emphasized that consuming too much sugar can easily cause inflammation in the body, increasing the risk of tooth decay, obesity, gout, diabetes and other diseases. The so-called sugar reduction refers to "refined sugar", including brown sugar, black sugar, granulated sugar, etc., which are all refined sugars. Many breads and biscuits also contain refined sugar ingredients. People can easily exceed the limit if they are not careful.

According to estimates, each adult male consumes 2000 calories per day, and can only consume 50g of sugar a day at most. As for women, they consume 1600 calories a day, and can consume 40g of sugar a day at most. Taking the bubble milk tea sold in the market as an example, one cup of bubble milk tea with normal sugar content contains 65g of sugar, which can easily exceed the recommended intake.

The specially prepared snow skin mooncake recipes come in two flavors: matcha sweet potato and purple sweet potato taro. Each has about 84 to 87 calories, which is only 1/10 of the Cantonese mooncakes on the market. If compared with the calories of mung bean cakes and egg yolk pastries, snow skin mooncakes only have 1/3 of their calories, providing a good choice for people who want to balance deliciousness and weight.

It is also recommended that people can eat 2 to 3 tennis-sized servings of fruit every day to replace sugar, and replace white rice, white noodles, etc. with whole wheat, grains or root foods, which can effectively reduce sugar and improve health!
