Greasy midnight snacks, bad intestinal bacteria... 5 major occupations prone to colon polyps

Office workers often stay up late to work overtime, working hard both day and night. Long-term lack of sleep, coupled with irregular bowel movements and bad bacteria in the intestines, will cause alarm for colon health and may increase the risk of developing colon polyps in the future. In particular, according to a survey conducted by the Taiwan Cancer Foundation, there are five major occupations where intestinal polyps are most likely to occur. If they are not taken seriously and improved, intestinal polyps may lead to the risk of developing into colorectal cancer in the future.

Colorectal cancer and the prevention and treatment of colorectal polyps are closely related. The Taiwan Cancer Foundation recently found in the "Colorectal Polyps Problem and Lifestyle Habits Survey" that colorectal polyps may be related to certain occupational characteristics, including: software engineers, marketing planners, civil servants, medical staff, and construction workers, which are the top five occupations prone to colorectal polyps. Further analysis of lifestyle habits revealed that people in occupations with a high risk of intestinal polyps have abnormal lifestyles in work, diet, sleep, gastrointestinal conditions, and other habits, leading to the "bitter intestine 4 lifestyle" problem.

Dr. Lai Jiming, Executive Director of the Taiwan Cancer Foundation and Vice President of Wan Fang Hospital, said that from the cross-analysis, it can be observed that those who were found to have colon polyps in this occupation had a significantly higher probability of working overtime and overtime than those who were not found to have colon polyps in this occupation.

【Bitter Intestine 4 Work and Rest】

Intestinal work hours:

As many as 90.5% of office workers who were found to have colon polyps worked more than 40 hours per week. 8.2% of office workers who were found to have colon polyps worked more than 60 hours per week. Nearly 40% of office workers work overtime. Moreover, 56.5% of the office workers who found colon polyps said they often had to work overtime during their vacations, which was 24.5% higher than those who did not find them.

Inefficient sleep:

61.9% of office workers who were found to have colon polyps went to bed after 12 o'clock more than 3 days a week, and nearly 30% said they slept less than 5 hours a day. 60.5% of office workers who were found to have colon polyps had irregular sleeping hours every day, and 51.7% said they had difficulty falling asleep more than 3 days a week, which is nearly 3 times that of those who did not find it. They showed the "three sleepless nights" such as insufficient deep sleep hours, irregular sleep time and poor sleep quality.

Enterobacteriaceae:

Observing the frequency of bowel movements, the proportion of office workers with colon polyps who have bowel movements more than once every four days a week is nearly 2.5 times that of office workers without colon polyps. Irregular bowel movements may cause bad bacteria and unpleasant substances, which will have a negative impact on the intestines.

Greasy midnight snack:

47% of the office workers who were found to have colon polyps indicated that they had the habit of eating midnight snacks, which was 18.3% more than those who were not found to have colon polyps. Nearly half of those who were found to have colon polyps preferred fried foods in their daily eating habits.

Colorectal cancer has topped the domestic cancer list for the eighth consecutive year, with more than 15,000 new cases each year. The Taiwan Cancer Foundation calls for "3 Steps to a Healthy Colon", suggesting eating more fruits and vegetables and less red meat, balancing bacteria and replenishing good bacteria, and actively screening and exercising. These three suggestions remind young working people who are at the core of their careers that while they are working hard to build their economy, they should also pay attention to the importance of gastrointestinal health.

Nutritionist Cheng Xinyi from the Taiwan Cancer Foundation said that busy office workers often neglect a balanced diet, which not only increases the risk of colon polyps, but also causes gastrointestinal discomfort that affects the quality of life. In addition to following the "Fruit and Vegetable Rainbow 579" diet, you can also supplement good bacteria by using yogurt that protects the intestines and stomach and has passed the national health food certification, and pairing it with your daily diet. Adjust the taste to light, low-oil, and high-fruit and vegetable cooking, so that good bacteria and fruits and vegetables can lay a good foundation for your intestinal health.

【3 Steps to Correct Intestine】:

1. Eat more fruits and vegetables and less red meat:

Eat a balanced diet, eat at regular times, reduce high-fat cooking habits and red meat intake, and increase vegetable and fruit intake.

2. Balance the bacteria and replenish good bacteria:

Improve the smoothness of bowel movements, consume foods that promote intestinal peristalsis (such as yogurt, high-fiber foods), reduce the time that feces stay in the intestines, and reduce the chance of being affected by bad bacteria and toxins.

3. Active screening and frequent exercise:

Regardless of whether or not there is a family history of colorectal cancer or colorectal polyps, young people under the age of 50 are encouraged to take the initiative to undergo early fecal occult blood screening for colorectal cancer and develop the habit of exercising 333 (exercise 3 days a week, more than 30 minutes each time, and an average heart rate of more than 130 beats per minute).
