Laziness is worse than being fat! Walking for 20 minutes can help you live longer

After seeing the following news, the otakus and housegirls may want to consider changing their habit of not exercising. Researchers at the University of Cambridge recently warned that people who love to stay at home have twice the risk of premature death as obese people!

The Daily Telegraph reported that a 12-year large-scale study conducted by Cambridge University on 334,000 people found that lazy people who do not exercise have twice the risk of a short life span as fat people, but this can be avoided by taking a short 20-minute walk every day.

Previous studies have shown that lack of exercise is associated with heart disease and cancer. The study, published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, offers a more stern warning about our modern lazy lifestyle. According to previous statistics from researchers, the European population death data report pointed out that 337,000 people died from obesity, but surprisingly, 676,000 people died from lack of exercise.

Although researchers are currently unable to confirm how long exercise can extend life, they emphasize that moderate exercise can make people live longer. This study showed that exercise reduced 7.35% of other factors that may cause death risk; and a 20-minute walk a day can burn 90 to 110 calories and reduce the risk of premature death by 1/3. In addition, for fat people who never exercise, their risk of death can be reduced by 16% as long as they exercise moderately; people with normal weight will benefit even more, with their risk of death reduced by up to 30%. With just a little bit of effort, you can get high returns. What are you waiting for, otakus?

Ulf Ekelund, who led the study, said: "The message is simple: even small amounts of daily exercise can bring substantial health benefits to sedentary people. While studies have found that just 20 minutes of exercise a day can improve your health, he advises pushing yourself to go beyond that.

The UK recommends that people do 150 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise per week, such as gardening, dancing or brisk walking; or 75 minutes of vigorous exercise, including running or aerobics. But a recent survey found that only a third of people manage to walk for 30 minutes over any given week, even if that includes walking to the shops, work or school.

Nick Wareham of the Medical Research Council Epidemiology Unit at the University of Cambridge said helping people lose weight was a challenge but efforts should be made to reduce obesity in the population, for example by developing public health initiatives and encouraging sports competitions. This may seem like a small change, but it is doable and can have huge health benefits.

June Davison, a senior nurse at the British Heart Foundation, agreed with the findings, saying regular exercise can reduce the risk of dying from heart disease, and recommended that adults should do at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise per week. Whether it's walking, biking, or climbing stairs, getting some daily exercise will help reduce your risk of heart disease.
