Obesity is one of the negative factors that affect health. There are many ways to effectively achieve the goal of weight loss, but each method has its limitations and risks. In addition to changing lifestyle, controlling diet or using medication, doctors say that for people with a BMI of 27 or above, endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty is a good choice. A woman in her 40s tried weight-loss drugs and diet control but was unable to achieve her desired weight-loss effect. After evaluation by the hepatobiliary gastroenterologist of the Third General Hospital, the patient underwent endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty (ESG), which has low surgical risks and allows the patient to resume normal life the next day after treatment. The weight dropped from 70kg before the operation to 60kg one month later. The overall weight loss was about 10% after the first month, and the BMI dropped from 27.3 to 23.4. The patient was very satisfied with the results of the operation. Yang Zhiwei, attending physician of the Hepatobiliary Gastroenterology Department of the Tri-Service General Hospital, said that the new type of endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty is a method of suturing the stomach through a gastroscope, which can effectively reduce hunger and reduce stomach volume, with a weight loss effect of about 10-20%, and improve metabolic syndrome phenomena such as hypertension, hyperlipidemia and diabetes. The minimally invasive surgery is highly safe and only takes about 1.5 hours. The recovery period after treatment is only one to two days. Compared with the risk of irreversibility of gastrectomy, if there is any discomfort after endoscopic gastrectomy, it can be removed. Therefore, it is suitable for more groups of people, such as patients with mild obesity (BMI>27) and metabolic syndrome, patients with severe obesity who do not want to undergo surgery, and patients who regain weight after weight loss surgery. After endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty, appetite and food intake can be successfully reduced. Dr. Yang encourages patients to actively cooperate with the medical team's professional guidance on diet control to achieve better weight loss results. Regaining a healthy life and regaining beauty is just around the corner. After endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty, appetite and food intake can be successfully reduced.
