For people who want to lose weight, often heard advice includes replacing daily sugary drinks or soda with boiled water, so as to avoid excessive intake of sugar and calories from beverages; in addition, according to the latest research from the University of Illinois published in the Journal of Human Nutrition and Dietetics, drinking more water itself may help control weight. The authors analyzed data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHES) between 2005 and 2012, which included 18,311 adult subjects. They found that increasing water intake by 1 to 3 cups per day, compared with an average of 4.2 cups per day, reduced total energy intake by 68 to 205 calories and reduced sodium intake by 78 to 235 mg. The authors suggest that drinking more water may help people manage their weight by reducing their intake of sugar, salt and saturated fat. This article is from ELSEVIER Global Pharmaceutical News |
