Girls' Generation: Eating dessert before meals is effective in controlling obesity

The media recently reported that the secret to the South Korean girl group Girls' Generation, which is popular in Asia, maintaining their graceful figure is the "reverse diet", which means reversing the order of eating, starting with dessert and then eating the main meal. It is said that this can help suppress appetite and achieve weight loss effects. Recent studies abroad have also confirmed that starting a meal with dessert can indeed make the brain feel "satisfied", thereby effectively preventing overeating and reducing the chance of obesity.

Brain protein "glucokinase" records the amount of glucose in the body

There is a brain protein called glucokinase in the brain that is responsible for recording the total amount of glucose in the body at all times. If the glucose level is too low, brain proteins will send signals to tell the body to start eating and increase the intake of sugary or starchy foods to make up for the energy needed by the body.

According to the British Daily Mail, a research team from Imperial College London found through experiments on mice that when there was no experimental intervention and the mice could choose to eat normal food or sugar water, they chose to eat staple food more than sugar water. However, when the glucokinase in the mice's brain was increased, the mice's dietary preferences changed, becoming more inclined to drink sugar water and reducing their intake of staple foods.

Another set of tests also found that when normal mice were hungry for 24 hours, the glucokinase in the brain became extremely active and wanted to find food to eat.

Eating desserts or starchy foods before meals can effectively prevent overeating

Researcher Dr James Gardiner published the study in the Journal of Clinical Investigation and said that when people are hungry, glucokinase is not satisfied, so they cannot resist the temptation of food. To lose weight effectively, the research team speculates that one should first consume sugary foods to satisfy glucokinase, which will control appetite and prevent overeating, effectively preventing eating too much and gaining weight, or eating too much and becoming uncomfortable.

It is recommended that people who want to lose weight should eat some glucose-rich foods before meals. Desserts are indeed a very tempting method, but starchy foods can also be converted into glucose, so starchy foods such as French fries, bread, and pasta actually contain more glucose and may be more effective in satisfying glucose kinase. He believes that the secret to losing weight is to refer to the way Italians eat. Their traditional custom is to eat a small plate of risotto or pasta as an appetizer before a meal.

However, if dessert is saved for after a meal, it takes the brain longer to realize that there is enough glucose in the body. The brain eats without being aware of it. If you wait until after dinner to eat dessert, you may have already taken in too many calories and easily gain weight.

【Health Tips】:

Having some dessert or starchy food before meals to control appetite is a new method, but if too much sugar is consumed, it may cause large fluctuations in insulin secretion, which will lead to poor control of blood sugar. The unchanging law of healthy weight loss is to eat a balanced amount of food, avoid taking in too much total calories, and burn fat and shape your body through exercise to achieve the best results.
