Sleeping less than 5 hours and consuming the most calories

Past studies have shown that sleep affects daily routines and health, and that lack of sleep can easily lower the body's basal metabolism and make people gain weight. However, a study by the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania found that our daily dietary choices are also closely related to sleep patterns. People who sleep less than five hours a day consume more calories in their daily diet than the average person.

Sleeping less than 5 hours a day will not only cause hormonal imbalance in the body, but also make people consume more calories.

According to the Huffington Post, people's sleep time can be divided into extremely short (less than 5 hours), short (5-6 hours), normal (7-8 hours), and long (more than 9 hours). Researchers analyzed the calories consumed by people with different sleep periods in their daily diet, from high to low: short, normal, extremely short, and long. The types of food they choose will also be different. For example, the extremely short group who sleep the least drink the least water, while those who sleep the most drink less tea or eat sweets such as chocolate.

Although the study did not indicate which specific foods would cause the sleep cycle to shorten, or conversely, which types of foods would be chosen when the sleep cycle shortens, the study also confirmed past studies that the reason why people tend to gain weight easily due to too little sleep, in addition to hormonal imbalances in the body, may also be related to dietary choices. When people lack sleep, they tend to choose high-calorie foods and sweets, and drink less water; this causes a slow metabolism and naturally makes it easier to gain weight.

In addition, according to a study in the Canadian Medical Journal, if adults sleep less than 4 hours a day, it can easily affect the immune system's ability to fight inflammation and toxins, and in severe cases it may cause cancer. Although the study did not specify which type of cancer is more likely to occur, long-term lack of sleep is not only prone to obesity, but also causes poor memory and decreased immunity. If you accidentally catch a cold, it will be difficult to recover. These are all disadvantages that have been confirmed by research. If you want to have a healthy body, adequate sleep is absolutely the key.
